Official delegations from the Royal Trophy and the Sultanate of Brunei’s Empire Hotel & Country Club attended the Japan Golf Tour Championship Citibank Cup Shishido Hills as guests of the Japan Golf Tour Organization – the sanctioning body of the Royal Trophy.

The Japan Golf Tour Championship Citibank Cup Shishido Hills, one of the Japan Golf Tour’s most important events, was held on 31 May – 3 June 2012 at the prestigious Shishido Hills Golf Club in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan.

“It was a pleasure to welcome the Royal Trophy and The Empire Hotel & Country Club’s respective delegations to the Japan Golf Tour Citibank Cup Shishido Hills,” stated Japan Golf Tour Executive Director and Royal Trophy Chief Tournament Director Andy Yamanaka.

“The Japan Golf Tour has been a sanctioning body of the Royal Trophy since the inception of the Championship and we look forward to a very successful sixth edition of this significant Competition played between the Continents of Asia and Europe,” added Andy Yamanaka.

“We are honored that two-time Japan Golf Tour Order of Merit winner Naomichi ‘Joe’ Ozaki will lead the Asian Team as Captain once again when the Matches are played at The Empire Hotel & Country Club in the Sultanate of Brunei on 14-16 December,” concluded Andy Yamanaka.

“It was an honor to attend the Japan Golf Tour Championship Citibank Cup Shishido Hills. The Japan Golf Tour operates one of the three largest professional golf tours in the world and Japanese professional golf carries tremendous heritage. We are delighted to have such a strong cooperation with the Japan Golf Tour as the official sanctioning body of the Royal Trophy,” stated Lincoln Venancio, the Royal Trophy Managing Director.

“Our Royal Trophy delegation enjoyed great learning observing the very high level of professionalism and expertise demonstrated by the Japan Golf Tour at the occasion of the Japan Golf Tour Championship. We believe that this type of collaboration, cooperation and goodwill between organizations is the way forward for the development of golf in Asia,” added Lincoln Venancio.

“On behalf of The Empire Hotel & Country Club, we express our appreciation to the Japan Golf Tour for the warm welcome extended to our delegation at the Japan Golf Tour Championship,” stated Desmond Acheson, General Manager of The Empire Hotel & Country Club.

“Attending the Japan Golf Tour Championship was very beneficial to our preparations for the hosting of the sixth edition of the Royal Trophy. We are looking forward to a magnificent edition of this great series of matches which brings together the continents of Asia and Europe and to a great collaboration with the Japan Golf Tour,” stated Nigel Taylor, Golf & Country Club Operations Manager.

The next edition of the Royal Trophy will be held as a tribute to the late legendary Seve Ballesteros who led the Europeans to victory at the two inaugural editions of the competition. Japanese superstar Ryo Ishikawa and Korean match-play maestro Kim Kyung-tae are the first two players selected by Asian Team Captain Naomichi ‘Joe’ Ozaki for the Asian Team. Scotland’s Colin Montgomerie OBE, the only European golfer in history to remain undefeated in singles competition while wearing European colors, has been nominated by Captain José Maria Olazábal as the first player for the Continent’s defense of the Trophy.

The Royal Trophy will be immediately preceded by the 2012 Asia Pacific Golf Summit – an event firmly established as one of the world’s leading business gatherings for the golf industry.
