José Maria Olazábal has wasted no time in bolstering his Royal Trophy line-up by turning to one of the stars of Europe’s incredible Ryder Cup triumph.

The Spanish great, who will again captain Europe against Asia in December, has rewarded Nicolas Colsaerts for a simply sensational Ryder Cup debut with another call-up.

Colsaerts was one of Olazábal’s two wild card picks for the clash with the USA at Medinah, and he repaid his captain’s faith in him by making one of the most amazing starts in the 85 year history of the competition.

His first appearance came in the opening session of four-ball matches, alongside Lee Westwood – and he rattled off eight birdies and an eagle to finish the round ten under par.

Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker had no answer to Colsaerts’ explosive performance, and he and Westwood claimed a morale-boosting victory over the American duo, which proved vital in setting the stage for Europe’s final day victory charge.

Olazábal admitted he made up his mind to hand Colsaerts a Royal Trophy invitation largely on the strength of that performance.
