Korean match-play maestro K.T. Kim has been announced by Captain Y.E. Yang as a member of the Asian Team for the seventh edition of the Royal Trophy to be played on 20-22 December 2013 at Dragon Lake Golf Club in the metropolis of Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China.

Widely known as a master of match-play golf, the Seoul resident Kim was instrumental in the Asian victory at the latest edition of the Royal Trophy played in the Sultanate of Brunei. Partnering with Asia’s first Major winner Y.E. Yang in a dramatic play-off, Kim converted a monumental winning putt to overcome European Ryder Cup stars Francesco Molinari of Italy and Nicolas Colsaerts of Belgium.

K.T. Kim is the winner of nine professional titles, winner of the Japan Golf Tour Order of Merit in 2010 and an Asian Games Gold Medalist in both team and individual competitions.

“K.T. Kim has clearly demonstrated his tremendous capability and value to the Asian Team and it is not surprising that Captain Y.E. Yang would want to have him on his side during the next edition of the Royal Trophy,” stated Lincoln Venancio, Co-Managing Director of the Royal Trophy.

“He was a very important player in the Asian Team defeating Europe as the Ryder Cup holders and he demonstrated a fantastic ability to handle the pressure and produce outstanding golf when most needed,” added Lincoln Venancio.

The Royal Trophy is the official competition between the continents of Asia and Europe and was created in concert with the vision of the late legendary five-time Major winner Seve Ballesteros. The sixteen-kilogram solid-silver Trophy was donated by His Majesty the King of Thailand; the late Seve Ballesteros, Colin Montgomerie OBE and José Maria Olazábal captained the European Team in previous editions and Japanese golf icons Masahiro Kuramoto and Naomichi ‘Joe’ Ozaki led the Asian Team in the past encounters.

The Royal Trophy is officially sanctioned by the Japan Golf Tour Organization, Asia’s largest, richest and most comprehensive professional golf tour, and the China Golf Association. All-time greats Sir Nick Faldo, Ian Woosnam OBE, José Maria Olazábal, Paul McGinley, Isao Aoki, Naomichi ‘Joe’ Ozaki and Jeev Milkha Singh are members of the Royal Trophy Players’ Committee.

“The first hosting of the Royal Trophy in China is a historic event. The Royal Trophy Players’ Committee is looking forward to a magnificent competition between Europe and Asia and a great showcase of continental team match-play golf,” stated Royal Trophy Players’ Committee Member and six-time Major winner Sir Nick Faldo.

“We are very pleased that China is hosting the seventh edition of the Royal Trophy – Europe vs Asia continental team competition. We believe that the Royal Trophy will make a sound contribution to the further development of golf in China and will provide a powerful sporting inspiration by hosting such championship;” stated Zhang Xiaoning, Director General of the Multi-Ball Games Administrative Center of the General Administration of Sport of China and Vice President and Secretary General of the China Golf Association.

Asian Team Captain Y.E. Yang will lead Asia in the defense of the Royal Trophy while European Ryder Cup hero José Maria Olazábal will captain the European Team. K.T. Kim joins Asia’s highest ranked golfer, Hideki Matsuyama, as a member of the Asian Team.
