Interview – Asian Team Vice Captain – Zhang Lian-wei

The seventh edition of the Royal Trophy, the official and traditional professional golf competition between the continents of Europe and Asia, will be held on 20-22 December 2013 at the 54-hole Dragon Lake Golf Club in Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China. The Asian Team will be defending stewardship of the sixteen-kilogram solid-silver Trophy as the continents engage in a dramatic, passionate and highly competitive series of sixteen foursomes, four-ball and singles matches.

The Asian Team will be led by Captain Y.E. Yang of Korea and Vice Captain Zhang Lian-wei of China, while the Europeans will be headed by Ryder Cup hero and two-time Masters champion José Maria Olazábal.

As the dates approach and the two continents undertake their preparations for the Seve Ballesteros-inspired continental golfing battle, Vice Captain Zhang Lian-wei provided insights and views on the competition and his appointment to co-lead the Asian Team.

A golf legend in China and widely recognized as the People’s Republic’s great golfing ambassador; Zhang Lian-wei is the winner of thirteen professional career titles and the first Chinese golfer to play at The Masters at Augusta National.
