The Japan Golf Tour Organization, the China Golf Association and legends of golf have confirmed their comprehensive and long-term support for the Royal Trophy, the official competition between the European and Asian continents.

The Japan Golf Tour Organization is the official body for professional golf in Japan. A traditional and established organization, it operates the largest professional golf Tour in Asia consistently featuring in the range of 25 major events per year including iconic tournaments such as the Japan Open, Dunlop Phoenix, Casio World Open and the Golf Nippon Series being held this week.

“It is with great excitement that we officially support and sanction the hosting of the seventh edition of the Royal Trophy, the single annual sporting event competed between two continents,” stated Katsuji Ebisawa, Chairman, Japan Golf Tour Organization.

“The Japan Golf Tour Organization and Japanese golf in general feel compelled to use its utmost efforts to bring Seve’s dream to fruition and are fully committed to relentlessly continue to support this championship, to honor the tournament’s magnificent legacy and to take all necessary steps to ensure a brightest future for the matches,” concluded Katsuji Ebisawa.

The China Golf Association is the governmental authority for all golf activities in the People’s Republic of China. As a branch of the nation’s General Administration of Sport, the Association is responsible for all professional and amateur events held in the People’s Republic as well as for all player development initiatives.

“It is with great enthusiasm that we look forward to the seventh edition of the Royal Trophy being held in China and attach great importance to this traditional competition,” stated Zhang Xiaoning, Director General of the Multi-Ball Games Administrative Center of the General Administration of Sport of China and Vice President and Secretary General of the China Golf Association.

The Royal Trophy Players’ Committee was developed personally by Seve Ballesteros, at the time the legendary five-time Major winner became aware of his terminal illness. The charismatic Spaniard hand-picked the great personalities of golf he wanted to have as stewards of the Royal Trophy, to protect it from future attempts to damage this important legacy of his career. Unsurprisingly, the committee is comprised of some of his past Ryder Cup teammates and friends in Sir Nick Faldo, Ian Woosnam OBE, José Maria Olazábal and Paul McGinley. On the Asian part of the organization are Isao Aoki, Naomichi ‘Joe’ Ozaki and Jeev Milkha Singh.
