The Royal Trophy and the Kingdom of Thailand Ties Further Strengthened

Official meetings were held earlier today between the Royal Trophy, represented by Managing Director Ivan Ballesteros, and the Kingdom of Thailand, represented by Mrs. Suphatra Srimaitreephithak, Consul General of the Kingdom to the Guangzhou Municipality of the People’s Republic of China.

“At the official meeting with Consul General Suphatra Srimaitreephithak earlier today, we once again expressed our friendship and gratitude for the gracious donation of the perpetual Trophy by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand and for the Kingdom’s important role in hosting the inaugural five editions of the Championship,” stated Ivan Ballesteros.

“The Asian Team for this year’s edition of the Royal Trophy features Thongchai Jaidee, who is representing the continent for a record sixth time, and Kiradech Aphibarnrat, who achieved impressive results this season. The relationship between the Royal Trophy and the Kingdom of Thailand is very special and has featured strong support from numerous Prime Ministers over the years,” concluded Ivan Ballesteros.

The Royal Trophy started at a historic meeting held in 2001 between the late legendary two-time Masters champion Seve Ballesteros, Ivan Ballesteros and Asian sports entrepreneur Lincoln Venancio. The three-time Open Championship winner Ballesteros envisioned that the competition would gift the Asian continent with the same growth impetus the Europeans enjoyed as a result of the Ryder Cup in the 1980s and 1990s.
